Denon rolls out in the UK a player/amp duo in its AE range, praised for its wallet-friendly quality products.
The Denon DCD-500AE is a sober-looking player with a simple but effective brushed aluminium facade and soft contours typical of the AE series. It's as effective on the inside with a original Denon system placed centrally to maintain the balance of the player. A DAC working in 192kHz/24-bit deals with conversion, on to channels but without any excessive brightness on the higher spectrum says Denon. The DCD-500AE is sold at £160.
The Denon PMA-500AE is going at £180. Not bad for 2×70 Watts, given out by push-pull high-current transistors. What's more is you have two separate power supplies, one for the audio and the other for the digital controls. Quality components are used: Denon « blocks », carbon resistance, ultrafast diodes…and the microprocessor that controls the beast shuts off if unused.
