Osaka-based Onkyo continues to push the boundaries of audiophile technology with the launch of the T-4555, a new DAB/FM/AM separates tuner that's upgradeable to handle any new digital radio broadcast standards that may one day hit our fare shores.
This upgrade is taken care of by Onkyo's unique plug-in module technology, first seen in the company's flagship TX-NR5000E AV receiver in 2004. With rumours that the current DAB standard may soon be replaced by DAB+, Onkyo is looking to address the issue of current DAB receivers soon becoming obsolete by offering a simple home upgrade should things change.
Its future proofing clearly isn't the sole attribute of the T-4555 though, as its audiophile credentials prove. Gold-plated outputs ensure the best possible signal transfer to your amp, while the DAB reception is via a Frontier Silicon processor with Nichicon capacitors offering the best possible sound quality. At this price and with these specs, the Onkyo is well worth checking out if you're looking to upgrade your home audio kit to DAB.
The T-4555 retails at £300 in Onkyo's trademark silver and is tailored to fit in with the existing Onkyo range aesthetically.
