Sunnyvale, Calif. — Maxim Integrated Products has introduced a quad, high-speed, high-bandwidth, HDMI/DVI passive switch capable of switching between two digital video signals into a single monitor or multiple HDMI/DVI connectors while maintaining signal integrity.
To ensure signal integrity at fast switching rates, the MAX4886 features a wide common-mode signal range that enables rail-to-rail signal switching at data rates in excess of 4 Gbits/s. As a result, this digital video switch provides a high level of performance for general-purpose, differential-switching applications such as full line-rate Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and telecom/networking LVDS-based backplanes, said Maxim.
In addition, because the MAX4886 offers the capability to multiplex two HDMI/DVI video streams into a single port, the design engineer can address multiple applications in the consumer video and PC marketplace such as desktop PCs, HDTVs, digital projectors, and other video applications.
The MAX4886 contains four differential pairs of 1:2 or 2:1 switches for multiplexing/demultiplexing RGB and CLK video signals in HDMI/DVI switching applications. Based on n-channel MOSFET architecture, these switches include an efficient internal charge pump, resulting in very low quiescent current for power-sensitive designs. Due to this advanced architecture, the MAX4886 provides extremely low 2.5 pF on-capacitance and 8 ohm on-resistance, which enables it to meet stringent digital-switching requirements, said Maxim. The MAX4886 operates from a single +3.0 V to +3.6 V supply and is fully specified over the extended -40° to +85° temperature range. The device is housed in a 3.5 x 9.0 mm, 42-pin TQFN package.
