I love pie charts. They can be very informative, but also misleading. I mean think about it, you can be convinced of just about anything as long as there are a series of pie charts to back it up.
I’m not saying that’s the case here, the Ken Pierce of Pixel Perfect Productions, who put these together obviously spent a lot of time compiling data to see just how well the new HD formats are doing. Essentially what he’s done is “looked at the biggest films of the last few years and calculated the percentages of those films, by studio grosses, that are available for release on each format.”
He looks at the highest grossing films of the last three years, as well as the top 100 grossing films of all time and analyzes what format each were released on. If that pie chart is anything to go off of, things aren’t looking good for the guys over at the HD-DVD camp.
