We’ve reported in the past that consumers have said that they watch a lot more TV, particularly sports, when it’s in high definition, but this suggests that HD is adding to "couch-potato-itis".
(Oh, and before you write in, I’m not saying that high definition programming leads to obesity, or sloth, or any other health problems.)
Anyway, some of the results included:
* 30% said they had watched more nature shows than they did in third grade.
* 12% said they watch sports, even though they don’t like sports.
* 11% seem to enjoy pointing out imperfections in celebrities now that they’re viewable in much greater detail. Presumably this passes the time if you don’t actually like the programme.
Finally, the respondents were asked what film they’d most like to see ported to high definition. The number one movie was the 1946 black and white classic "It’s a Wonderful Life".
