Paramount Studios is poised to drop its support of HD DVD format after Warner Bros studio said it would back the competing Blu-ray format, according to the Financial Times. The loss of Paramount would be a further blow to the Toshiba-backed HD DVD format following the move by Warner made at this year’s CES.
In August Paramount and DreamWorks said they would go exclusively with HD DVD, yet, according to the Financial Times, Paramount has a clause in its contract with the HD DVD camp that would allow it to change sides if Warner backed Blu-ray.
