A British company called Airsound has released a new technology known as “airSOUND stereo,” which they claim produces uniform stereo sound throughout an entire room from a single speaker enclosure, without any of the on/off axis phase and frequency anomalies or other performance issues from conventional two speaker stereo. The drivers and airSOUND encoding amplifiers are all contained within the enclosure, requiring just the connection of a stereo source.
Airsound has also released several products under its “orbitsound” electronics brand that use airSOUND single point stereo technology, including a sound bar, a tube powered iPod dock, and an interesting portable speaker, or “personal stereo aura device”, called the T3 which is intended to be worn around the neck and act as a headphone substitute. New products from a variety of companies containing airSOUND technology are expected to follow.
